Mission Murals is a volunteer run collective initiative that works with nonprofit organizations and artists to support the installation of murals in public spaces throughout Vermont. We believe all people should have access to beautiful spaces and that art has the power to tell important stories and to transform lives.

Mission:

Our mission is to bring high-quality art to nonprofits with a goal of communicating their mission and values to the public that elevates, enhances and builds community. Mission Murals supports non-profits as well as providing artists with a living wage for their work. We work with experienced mural artists with local ties to create beautiful and meaningful murals throughout the state.

We aim to enhance spaces that elevate and celebrate community as well as leveraging our collective energy to raise funds for the non-profits that we partner with.

What is Mission Murals?
Mission Murals is a community driven and funded initiative, motivated by people who love, are inspired by and want to create public art. Mission Murals is part of The Giving Project- a network of grassroots giving circles in Vermont.

Values:

Our work supports areas of social justice, social equity, diversity and inclusion through visually transforming spaces to elevate and celebrate community.

Core Curators:
Mission Murals has two tiers of membership. Core Curators and Community Supporters. Core Curators are the inner circle that share vision, are community focused and know how to make moves and get sh*t done, with a lens for diversity, equity and inclusion. The Core Curator team is an intergenerational, diverse group of Community Builders that act as the social governance to guide and move projects forward. Core Curators collaborate to discuss new projects throughout VT that would benefit from a public art component. Core Curators vet and select the artist for each project and give life to Mission Murals by promoting projects and encouraging fundraising.

Community Supporters:
This is an open giving circle and anyone can become a supporting member by making a financial contribution of at least $5 to support an individual project. Donations go directly to the non-profit from the individual and the non-profit will be the recipient of the funds and pay the artist directly. All donations are tax deductible. We use non-profit fundraising platform grapevine.org as an aggregate for collecting funds for each project, this takes the burden off the non-profit for processing donations and allows us to keep track of all funds raised. All donations are tax deductible and go directly to the doctor non-profit.

What We Do:
Mission Murals is 100% Core Curator and Community driven. Core Curators recommend and evaluate mural projects as assess impact. Together, we work with local communities and artists to facilitate the design and installation of the murals, as well as raising funds and awareness for organizations with our collective networks. We always strive to engage for community participation to paint and pitch in when possible (what this looks like in the “new normal” is TBD).
